The purpose and actually the ONLY purpose of your headline is to hook your reader into wanting to find out more.
Here is how you get started with your copywriting:
- Create a
Swipe File. Look up sample headlines for a product or service you want to create. If you like them collect them in your file. Ads that work are time tested and are often used over and over again.
- One way
to start writing headlines is by cheating a little - just use the sample ideas and adapt them.
- Make sure
you follow the 4 step AIDA formula:
- A – Attention
- I - Interest
- D - Desire
- A - Action
What to keep in mind when copywriting?
- Your
headline must appeal to your readers self interest. Your headline must answer this critical question ‘What’s In It For Me?’
- 90% of
people buy on emotion and then justify what they bought with logic. People like to look attractive, be successful, etc. There are words
and phrases that trigger emotions such as amazing, achieve, explode, dynamic, fascinating, etc.
- People
don’t buy what they need, people buy what they want. So grab their attention by clearly stating the benefits of the product up front and
back the benefits up with testimonials, test results, etc.
And as a finale Edit,
Edit, Edit!
Ask yourself “Does my copy exactly express what I’m trying to
say as succinctly as possible and still get the same message across?” This is very important when copywriting advertisements - they are
costly. And as they say “often less is better”.
